Time has erased all remains of this trading fort that was established on the left bank of the Yellowstone River. It stood on a plateau eighteen or twenty feet above the river a few yards from the bank and about seventy five yards below the delta of Rosebud Creek. It was established in 1842 by the American Fur Company. The cottonwood log fort was a little over one hundred feet square and was burned by Charles Larpenteur in 1850 when he abandoned it. The Far West meeting prior to the battle of the Little Big Horn also took place here.
