Participants: Captain William J Fetterman with 80 men against about 1,000 Sioux and Cheyenne warriors.
Fetterman was sent out to protect some wood wagons that were under attack. He was decoyed over the ridge by Crazy Horse and several other warriors and the 1,000 warrior force struck them. The battle lasted about a half hour before all soldiers and civilians were killed. 14 warriors, 79 Soldiers and 2 civilians were killed.
