Participants: Crow Scouts for General Miles and a few Cheyenne warriors from a camp on Hanging Woman Creek.
Three Cheyenne women were coming back down Hanging Woman Creek from a Sioux camp when they were discovered by some Crow Scouts working for General Miles. After their capture, a few Cheyenne warriors tried to rescue them but were repelled. The following day the battle at Wolf Mountain (Battle Butte) took place.
