In early April 1810 Pierre Menard and Andrew Henry with 32 trappers established a Missouri Fur Company trading post on a tongue of land between the Jefferson and Madison Rivers where they along with the Gallatin come together to make the Missouri River. The 300 foot square stockade was abandoned because of trouble with the Blackfoot Indians.
