Fort Parker was built in the fall of 1869 as a result of the Fort Laramie Treaty of 1868 to distribute annuity goods to the Crow Indians. The 200-foot-square log stockade had bastions on the northeast and southeast corners. Outside the stockade were 25 adobe houses for the Indians. After the fort burned in 1872, it was reconstructed of adobe rather than logs.
