Established on the site of old Forts Stewart and Kipp in late 1862 by one of the Roulette brothers who was financed by the American Fur Company.  It was attacked by the Assiniboine Indians who had been cheated by Roulette.  The Indians killed 7 traders and then burned the fort after the steam boat Nellie Rogers had taken on a cargo of furs and buffalo robes.
