Participants: Colonel Thomas T Faunteroy with a large invasion force found a Ute and Apache village

The Indians swarmed from their lodges to oppose the scouts and volunteers who arrived before the main body.  One Apache attacked, was shot, and then scalped.  When the rest of the troops arrived the Indians fled to the mountains.  8 Indians and 2 soldiers were killed.
