Participants: Colonel Walker with his 16th Kansas and Colonel Cole with his 12th Missouri making a combined force of about 2,000 men against Sioux warriors with very few rifles among them.
Colonels Walker and Cole were trying to find General Connor and were floundering up the Powder River when a war party of Sioux attacked them for two days straight. On the 3rd the burned some of their wagons and tack because many of their horses had died. On the 4th they were attacked again.
