Moore led his contingent of men down the Yellowstone from the mouth of the Rosebud to retrieve some supplies at the landing near the mouth of the Powder River. Some Indians made an appearance but would not attack. They were run off by a few shots from the Napoleon Gun and the party started loading supplies on the steamer Far West. A while later they appeared and again were scattered by the cannon. One army scout was killed along with an Indian.
