In the spring of 1862 the story of Johnston’s captivity spread throughout the mountains. A gathering of mountain men assembled near Virginia City and word got back to Johnston that the Blackfoot were near the Three Forks of the Missouri on Willow Creek. They attack the village and ten minutes later it was over.
Among the forty men were Anton Sepulveda, Jose Millardo, Mariano Modeno, Bill Miller, Chris Lapp, Senor Wyatt, Wind River Jake, Bald Head Pete, Mad Mouse, Jack Ireland, and Del Gue.
